A Tajo Abierto (Peru)

1h16min (Spanish/English sub.)

On the peaks of the Peruvian Andes is Yanacocha, one of the largest gold mining complexes in the world and the most productive in America. Currently, this project in constant state of expansion threatens the natural resources of the Cajamarca region, putting in danger of extinction a way of life that its inhabitants have enjoyed since pre-Inca times.

TAJO ABIERTO, directed by Gianni Converso, is an investigative journalistic documentary that uncovers the nature of the gold industry and exposes the threats it poses to the populations in affected regions. The objective of the film is to expose through specialists from all fields, government representatives and natives of the Andean zone, what the true value of gold is and how much we are willing to pay for its financial benefits.
