SUMMARY:Mijn Smartphone\, MIJNramp? - A Photo Exhibition on the Right to Say No
DESCRIPTION:Join us in interactive photo exhibition to explore the impact of mining and “the right to say no\,” starting from Latin America and ending in Gent! This exhibition highlights not only the destruction wrough upon Latin America by mining but also the dire effects upon Europe too!\n\nWe will reveal first-hand testimonies which depict not only the environmental repercussions and the resilience of the impacted communities\, but also the negative effect of this consumerist model on Europe – from the climate crisis to the everyday malfunctioning electronic made from those same metals mined in Latin America.\n\nJoin us on March 23 at Ensemble vzw\, Ghent\, as we open the exhibition with a guided tour from our environmental defenders\, Carolina and Wilder! Entrence is free. We hope to see you there!\n\n\n—\n\nThe photo exhibition is comprised of the work from two photographers and artists volunteering in CATAPA:\n-> Simon Lenskens: pictures from the projects “I Wonder Who Bewitched Us” (2017)\, taken in Perù capturing how local communities deal with invasive mining companies but also how life continues.\n-> Dayana Curzon: pictures of the projects “Basura Galeria: an art expo from the north to the south”\, depicting electronic wastes left in the city of Gent\, tackling the problem of electronic wastes and planned obsolescence\n\n[This event is part of the The Right to Say No Tour. Carolina and Wilder\, two activists from Falan\, Colombia\, are building a movement to defend their region against mining companies and their colonialism. They have the right to say no to the destruction of their region. Join the events during The Right to Say No Tour to hear about the experiences of these environmental defenders\, how our “green” transition is impacting their lives and how degrowth might help their struggle.]
